Pippa and Martin, Thanks for your replies. Thanks Pippa, will give it a try. I should have though of that before i spent hours trawling through various sites on Google. Especially as I used to live 3 miles from Paisley. Martin, I also wasn't far from Langbank and I think it is a bit too far from Greenock but you never know. Boarding school for R.C. Boys would definately fit the bill and info on the census. Many thanks to you both for taking the time to investigate. Christine. |

I believe that St Vincents in Langbank is/was some of RC seminary or college. It is a few miles outside Greenock. http://www.stevebulman.f9.co.uk/churches/images/renfrew/langbank_rc.jpg From http://www.happyhaggis.co.uk/langbank.htm 'The St. Vincent's Conference Centre and Holiday Home was previously known as 'The Hollies' and until 1980 functioned as a Roman Catholic boarding school for boys.' Also http://www.scalan.co.uk/colleges.htm This suggests it only opened in 1961 MB |

Does anyone know if there was a Roman Catholic Seminary in Greenock, Renfrewshire about late 1800's/early 1900's. I'm looking for some sort of large institution for boys. The 1901 census doesn't show address. Christine. |
