I've had an invitation to a wedding next year and it states black suits and ties for the men and black dresses for the ladies. I look like Morticia from The Adams Family in black. I don't know what the bride will be wearing but I don't think we'll need colour photographs!

I'm afraid I would turn down the invitation because I never wear dresses - only trousers.

I realise the couple want their own sort of wedding but I don't think it fair to expect guests to have no say in what they wear. Only my opinion of course.

I'd be tempted to use non-black accessories, and have a bright scarf you can wear from time to time.

I'd turn up in red or hot pink :-D

Since when do brides dictate what female guests wear? :-S

Colour/outfit suggestions for funerals I totally get but weddings, no :-)

Edit Joking about the red but I'd go for a black and white pattern.

I’ve heard of colour themes for guests at weddings but black for the ladies is a but extreme.

Wear the black dress or floaty trousers but make sure you have a bit of colour at the neck, even if it is just a bit of white to reflect on your face.

Surely it is not easy to find black dresses to buy this time of year. Still if the wedding is next year maybe you will find something in autumn. Do you know the bride well. It would be interesting to know her thinking re the black.
I am Sue a black and white dress would be acceptable.

I personally think it's NOT OK to dictate what guests wear.

I suspect it's just to get a certain 'look' for social media pics etc.

I would not attend on principle, or I'd flout the rules.

OH's elder son and partner decided (very close to the day) that they wanted 'black tie'. OH had just bought a new linen suit so he wore that!

That’s ridiculous, Sheila, you have to give people time to sort out something like that.

Hire companies can run out at certain times.

I would not attend personally, I would not be told what or what not to wear to any occasion

Just thinking that this could be more of a mess than intended.

Surprisingly there is more than one shade of black. For instance, if you buy a top from one outlet and the bottoms from another they may not match.

I didn't give an opinion earlier but I think the same as many of you. I don't like being told what I can or cannot wear. It's my nephew's wedding so I'll have to go, I don't want to upset my lovely sister-in-law but I'll do it grudgingly with a shocking pink hat, bag and shoes as accessories. It'll look more like a funeral.

Every year there seems to be a 'such-and-such is the new black'.

Well, this year, apparently 'brown is the new black' :-)

Of course, as an auntie, you have to attend but I love the idea of shocking pink accessories!
