Baroness margaret Thatcher died yesterday at the age of 87. She was the first ever female Prime Minister in Britain and her time in office was marked by controversial policies that divided the nation.

Margaret Hilda Roberts was born in Grantham, Lincolshire in 1925 to Alfred and Beatrice Roberts. You can see the transcription for her birth here http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/records/transcription/ebmdbirthindexed/97197793?scheduleid=0&searchhistorykey=1531261&surname=roberts&forename=margaret%20h&fulfillmentproviderkey=0

She had one older sister, Muriel, and they were raised in a flat above her father's grocery shop.
