Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins

Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins Report 30 May 2016 16:51

I know this is an old thread ....... but my late Mum never had a Birth Certificate. She too was born in Dublin and only had her Baptism Certificate as proof of her existance!

She had to sent it off to get a passport later on in life to go abroad as she was unable to get a Birth Certificate from Ireland.

(I found her other sisters who were born in Dublin and was able to get those. All born at different addresses.)

So, to this day I don't know exactly where she was born in Dublin!
:-(

Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins Report 14 Mar 2009 22:08

They could well have put the number of years married incorrect on the census...especially if the child was born the same year that they were married!

It happens I'm afraid.

Blue Moon Report 14 Mar 2009 16:13

Hi Betty

They've arrived ( Certificates ) this morning
but.......................................

and I quote

"No entry, corresponding with the particulars in your recent application,
was found, in that period.
this applies to 3 of the 4 that I ordered .

The 4th is note stating they have found an entry and if I want the Certificate I am to return the form and they will send a "sealed certified copy of the entry" the problem is with this one is the year of marriage is 3 years later than the 1911 census says..........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I'm getting the impression they don't want to be found...lol
out of 6 Certificate ordered I have only been able to get 1.

If I didn't laugh id cry...lol

( Dublin )
Peter Graham 1880....birth.....( No entry )
Peter Graham & Ellien ? 1900 ....Marriage.....( No entry )

John Berney 1871....birth.....( No entry )
John Berney & Ellen ? 1891...marriage.....( Ellen would have been 16 years old )

The 1911 Irish Census states they had been married 20 years,(1891)
the only marriage that can be found is
John Berney to Ellen O'Toole in October 1894,
the same year as their daughter Ester was born.
Could it be possible they put the incorrect date on the census !!!

Hi Blue Moon, i am sorry for not replying sooner but i was ill, and i must have looked at the last one re. John and Ellen Berney wrong, there is a John and Elizabeth Berney living at No. 13 Gardiner Street Lower and a Catherine and Andrew living just across from them in Number 10, Gardiner Street Lower.
I was in town the to-day looking for my fathers birth cert, went into Joyce house where you get the true cert, all information on it they did a ten year search could not find it it was not on their machine, so i went to the research rooms in The Irish Life mall to look through the books did a ten year search still could not find it, so i said to one of the girls that i had gotten the detalils from the new site on Irish BMDs that the Mormans are doing and would try that one, and it was his so i went back to the girl and said it to her as she had said that it has to be there if it was on the internet so she got down the book to look and she could not find it either.I did find a Ellen Graham (mmn) Birney born in Dublin North in 1928 Volumn 2 Page 294.
The next day that i am in i will get a photocopy of it and get the imformation off it for you.
Betty.

Hi Blue moon,
in 1939 Electrol (Dublin) there is a Peter and Ellen Graham living in Bridgefoot Street (Oliver Bond house) Ushers Quay, the only other Peter Graham is with an jANE living in No. 5 Rosse street. Arron Quay.
Henry Breslin is still living ( John and Catherine) with his parents in Summerhill but now at 51 Summerhill,
There is also a John and Ellen Berney living in Clarence Street North who were living in No. 11.4 Summerhill on the 1911 census with an Ellen aged about 7 years old.
If you want to look at the Electrol roll for 1939/40 it is the only on-line so far you will get it on www.dublinheritage.ie only Dublin on it.
Betty.

Just thought i would update you,

Thanks to a wonderful person called Noel,
I now have a baptism record for my father, Edward Graham,

As a result of that I have been able to find out a bit about my grandparents.

Their names were Peter Graham and Ellen Berney, both born in Dublin,
they got married 5th Feb 1923 in Dublin,
in the presence of Henry Breslin and Mary Moran.

My grand-father,Peter Graham, c1903 Dublin,was a soldier,
residence in 1923 was,36 Mid Gardiner St Dublin.
His father was also a Peter Graham c1880, Dublin,
profession = sailor .

Grand-mother Ellen Berney c1904 ,Dublin,
residence in 1923 was,28 Summerhill Dublin,
her Father was = John Berney c1871 Dublin,a laborer

I think I'm safe going with the 2 families in the 1911 census

Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins

Teresa With Irish Blood in Me Veins Report 11 Oct 2008 16:25

Hi Blue Moon

It could be that his second name was Edward and this was what he was know as....... and therefore could have been registered under a different Christian name...

OR...just registered as 'Male' Graham because they hadn't decided on a name when the birth was registered.

It might be worth trying for a birth certificate again quoting his DOB and his father's name.

It might cost a bit more for them to do a full search for the year under the Surname only..but it might just be the only solution!

If you know his mother's name then obviously that would certainly help you.

Your only other solution would be to find a living relative of your father's siblings as they might be able to assist you.

A death certificate of a sibling might lead you to living relative.

Just keeping all my info together

- 16/09/2008 21:02:56
Evening Anthony, I am try to find a birth certificate for my father. His Name was Edward Graham b1931 - d1971 Dublin, his marriage certificate, Army records and death certificate all have the same date and place of birth. I sent off to Roscommon records office without successs, and a search 10 years each side of his birth date has been done at the record office at Dublin, again without success. If his birth was never registered I presume I will have to try and find Church records but where do I start?(not living in Ireland.) This has been ongoing now for many years, and I really need to progress now. I will be grateful for any suggestion. Thank you Fay.

Answer
You can actually order the General Registration records on microfilm and search them yourself at any Mormon Family History Centre. Widening the search parameters as far as possible is sensible. Edward's birth may not have been registered, in which case his baptism record would be a good substitute: you would need to know where he was born and your question suggests that you have a good idea of this.

I received a copy of my Dad's army records,
the information I have about his birth is the same in his army records.
( Edward Graham born 29-11-1931 in Dublin )

A couple of very kind people off here have been to the records office at Dublin and have searched 10 years around his birth date, and still can't trace him.

Anybody got any other ideas,
