Hi Mary

So the puzzle goes on just who is Christina Miller living at 17 Drummond Street, Edinburgh in 1930 ?

I'm going to look into the sibbling marriages that you sent to see if any of them have a boy with Alexanders birth date.

The other thing I thought of was a voters roll for this address, but I think the date in question may be to early.

Puzzled as usual !

Update

I have tried the Church in Winchburgh for a baptismal record re Alexander Kane born 18th july 1931 but they have no record. The Minister says that Abercorn South church was apossibility but it has long since been demolished and he has no idea where the records could have went.

Can anyone help please?

Ian

Hi ~ not sure if you have traced your relative, I hope you have. Charlotte Theresa Brown Howison was my grandfather's youngest sister. She married Francis Kane & one his sisters married her older brother ~ John.

I've only just picked this thread up via Google rather than Genes Reunited. There is an interesting web site about the Scottish Shale Oil Industry in Broxburn & maps of the Stewartfield area where the family lived.

I've mainly used Scotland's People for tracing family members & it can be harder sometimes to trace & confirm more recent individuals. I hope you found your Uncle.

Kind regards ~ Janet

Thanks for your help Malyon. Can you see it he is travelling alone? The date would make him approximately 14yrs old.

Regards,
Ian.

The Alexander Kane on the shipping record was a seaman, aged 29 years. So not your Alexander.

After finding marraige records for Alexander's parents and other relations around 1900/1930 the chruch they all attended is in Uphall, Broxburn. If I can find a record of baptism for him, maybe his Godparents will be listed. His name was changed sometime after 1932.

Have you looked at the 1930 valuation rolls for 17 Drummond Street please? It must be a block of flats as there seem to be multiply surnames at that address. One of them is a John Howieson. There is also a David Miller.
