I seen all the births for Lawrence Hood and Mary Ann Mitchell but the mystery to me is where does the Hunter come in with Isabella Hunter Hood and her daughter Janet Hunter Leitch

Statutory Registration didn't begin until 1855 in Scotland. A marriage recorded in the OPRs rarely gives the names of the mothers of the bride and groom. Indeed often there is no names for the fathers either! The information varies from parish to parish.

As both Lawrence and Mary died after statutory registration began, it may be worth checking their death registrations to find the names of their mothers. That may show where the "Hunter" name comes from.

If the family followed the tradition Scottish naming pattern and Isabella was the eldest daughter she would be named for her maternal grandmother. Often the grandmother's maiden surname was given as a middle name.

Also worth remembering that in Scotland Isabella and Elizabeth are interchangeable names.

Checked death of Mary Hay Mitchell wife of Lawrence hood no mention of a Hunter cannot find Lawrence Hood death as yet.
On reflection the date for Janet Hunter Hood does not work

Still getting nothing on Scotlands People using name variants,Angus,All regions, all nothing until 1920 and that is Lawrence Hood and Mary Mitchells son

There is a Lawrance Hood buried on 31 December 1883 at St. Vigeans Churchyard Angus. (also a Laurence Hood in the same Churchyard on 18 June 1920, possibly his son?)

Note the spelling of Lawrance when checking Scotlandspeople for deaths.

Sorry, I have no credits for SP at the minute but using the free search facility there is one death for Hood just using the initial "L" in Arbroath, Angus in 1883, year of birth 1805 +/- 5years.
