I have the marriage cert, her father was Patrick Haggart, a weaver.
Even more likely that 'your' Patrick could be her brother.

Gee

Gee Report 13 Apr 2014 10:45

I guess you'll need the marriage certificate for her father' name

Can't see a record on Ancestry for the marriage, just the registration details

Catherine senior - Catherine Haggart - was born in around 1833 in Roscommon, married Hugh Gallagher in 1854 in Birmingham and lived all her life in Birmingham. She would be the sister of the Patrick you and Jan have been so clever as to find.

(1861 census re. Dea's post at 11.29 on 11th April above)

Brilliant.
I may never find Catherine snr. in Roscommon but at least I've got loads of new material to go on with her family.
Now I'm wondering if there are any more siblings lurking around in England!!! :-D

Thanks again to all especially Jan and Gins.

Thank you so much Gins as well as Jan.
Fantastic.
You can see how difficult it has been with so many name variants, and the older generation being illiterate - and probably with a thick Irish accent - so they didn't know if their name was spelled right or not.

Don't you just love the name variations!

BeverleyW

BeverleyW Report 12 Apr 2014 21:22

Oh wow Jan!
That is fantastic. I have looked for Haggarts before but never found that record.
Catherine's father was a Patrick.
There is a very good chance that this Patrick is her brother and therefore the mysterious Bridget could be her sister-in-law.

Can you by any chance look on Ancestry to see if the marriage record is there?
If Patrick's father is another Patrick, and a weaver, he is the right one. That certificate may well be worth investing in.

I see that Patrick and Bridget have another son Samuel in 1862.

Many thanks!

If you think about the 'accents'

They may have had a strong accent

Their words may have been misinterpertruded

BeverleyW

BeverleyW Report 12 Apr 2014 17:28

Thanks everyone, I will try and get my head round this.
The long and short of it is, whether Catherine senior is a Haggart, a Hagan or an Egan, she appears to have had a relative called Bridget in Birmingham in 1860! I thought I might be able to find the connection but unfortunately it seems to be impossible to narrow the field down.
In due course I might apply for a couple of birth certificates but I'm not even sure if it's worth the money!
Cheers
Beverley
