Hi all,

I wondered if some kind person could help me, i am looking for my great grandmother Mary Louisa Percy born 1883 in Porthcawl, registartion Bridgend, Glamorgan. She married James Coombs in 1902 in Grangetown, Cardiff and i have found her children one of them being my grandmother Violet Elizabeth Coombs born in Roath, Cardiff 1904. Mary died in 1975 in Barry, South Glamorgan and thats all i know about her.
I have tried to locate her on the census but all i can find is her on the 1911 census with her husband and two sons. i can not locate her on the 1901 census a year before her marriage or on the 1891 census. Please could somebody help me find Mary Louisa Percy on the 1901 or 1891 census please.

Thank you so much Andy and Mel, all this information is so helpful i cant believe how much information you have found, thank you so much for helping me crack the case of Mary Percy and all her family.

Andy i just rang Cardiff council and they can not locate a burial in Cardiff municipal cemeteries, so may have to look at Parish records or outside of Cardiff for Charles Percy. Thank you so much guys i really appreciate all of your help, very exciting Mel to be looking at records in Cornwall what a beautiful place have very fond memories of holidays there as a child.

Gritty Report 1 Dec 2014 12:39

I'm not sure if the info on Sarah is correct. Needs more work- Who is Margaret- mother-in-law on 1901 & 1911 census?? I think you'll need to buy the 1883 marriage cert to find out who Sarah has listed for her father.

I've just had another look at the 1911 census

Margaret is listed as MOTHER-IN-LAW and although her name has been transcribed as Percy, looking at the image, I think it's actually PERRY.

possible for 1861?
Name: Margaret J Perry
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: 1834
Relation: Lodger
Gender: Female
Where born: Lelant, Cornwall, England
Civil Parish: St Ives
Town: St Ives
County/Island: Cornwall
Country: England

Sub-registration district: St Ives

Name Age

Mary A Ninnis 18
Catherine Ninnis 13
John Juiell 69
Grace Williams 17
Margaret J Perry 27 married Lodger Dressmaker
Sarah L Perry 2 Cornwall, St Ives

Possible baptism for Sarah:

Name: Sarah Louisa Perry
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 27 Jul 1859
Baptism Place: St. Ives, Cornwall, England
Father: Francis Perry
Mother: Margaret Jane Perry
FHL Film Number: 1595570
Reference ID: p 203

This may not be correct- but worth looking into.

This death could also be related:

Name: Margaret J James
Birth Date: abt 1835
Date of Registration: Dec 1922
Age at Death: 87
Registration district: Newport
Inferred County: Monmouthshire
Volume: 11a
Page: 195

I wonder if the P initial under Sarah's marriage (that Andy put up earlier) stands for Perry??
