Find Ancestors

Is there any one who would like to help me find records of my ancestor Charles Walters born in Hucknall Notts in 1823. I am stuck because he might have changed his name from Clark. I have not found records for either.

If, as you say, he is your ancestor, who, when and where did he marry?

Have you obtained a copy of his marriage cert?

You say you haven't found records, so how did you work back to him?

Why do you think he was born in Hucknall in 1823? Do you have documents to back this up?

No Charles Walters or Clark born c1823 Hucknall showing up on any census records.

If that is Charles in 1851, he cannot be the one who died in 1866 as Charles and Mary are both on the 1871.

Thank you so much for all your help.I will look at all these options. There doesn`t seem to be any Walters born there at that time so I think he must have changed from Clark to Walters. My mother is still alive and has given me that info but she is muddled and forgetful now. I have sent off for marriage certificate from GRO and fast tracked it so might have news next week Chrissie

Do you mean Hucknall as it is called today, which back then was Hucknall Torkard or do you mean what was then Hucknall-under-Huthwaite but since 1907 just Huthwaite.

HH is very close to the Derbyshire border. Records could come under both Notts and Derbys
1841 may well have records under Mansfield Union (Derbys) but by 1851 Mansfield, Notts. That's how I found some of mine in that area.

PM received saying that Charles' details are from his son's marriage cert, which, frankly, cannot be.

The son's marriage cert would have no info about the father other than his name and occupation

I expect my tick in the box was a mistake. I have a copy of his son`s marriage certificate and yes you are right it does only show fathers name and occupation. his son`s name is Benjamin Walters born in Birchwood Alfreton Derbyshire.Area of Belper. I found some clue that Charles his father was from Hucknall.But this is only a clue because I found a Charles Walters with a Benjamin as a son in a Census record.. I am now trying to find Benjamins fathers father. I sent of for a marriage certificate but the GRO have not found evidence of Charles Walters married to Martha Gent. .Thank you
