Nancy

Where did Evans come from as Jenny's surname?

The only marriage for a Thomas Pinder to Evans is in 1900

EDIT

Did Thomas and Jane actually marry?

So she lied about her surname and marital status in 1911

And, as Joseph was born after the marriage, she probably put Brown as her maiden name by mistake

Presumably, they had to wait for John to die before marrying. I wonder if he was a War casualty

Gee

Gee Report 25 Jan 2015 12:30

A possible for John Thomas Brown, born Middlesbrough, 1877, mother Elizabeth C, father David

Can last see him on the 1901 census but after that, nada

Hi Guys, sorry just came in from walking the dog....There is a marriage listed Jacqueline for Thomas Pinder to Jane Evans in 1884 Stockton.. Thomas and Joseph were born in 1885.. So many replies and its always good to have a second pair of eyes..I have been at this for weeks going around in circles.. Will have a good look at your comments over a hot chocolate. Very cold here in Scotland.. <3

Would like to point out that Joseph born in 1919 had a middle name of "B" Brown perhaps ??
:-0

Is your avatar the dog you've been walking?

I adore spaniels...............

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Jan 2015 12:53

It would be very odd to include the surname of a cuckolded husband in the name of a child by another man...............but that doesn't mean it didn't happen

No 'B' on the index............................

Or on the death I posted earlier, which I rather think is his

Treemadnancy

Treemadnancy Report 25 Jan 2015 12:58

Mmm!! I dunno what's going on... She's had 2 children after 1911 then married in 1917 and had Joseph in 1919... That's a good 6 years later... Gets so complicated.. I'm even trying to look for a John Thomas Brown in the deaths to see when he died but as mentioned earlier he could have been a was casualty. :-S

Yeah the death in 1974 Newport Wales is definitely Joseph born 1919.. My neice is married to Gareth Pinder, his father is Graham Pinder born 1958.. Joseph Pinder born 1919 was Grahams father. Graham was 16 when his father died and knows absolutely nothing about him other than he had 2 brothers Ernest Pinder born 1911 who married Marjorie Daniel and Benjamin Pinder 1913 who married a Dorren Winn. So you can imagine how everyone is totally thrown that the 2 first sons mothers name was listed as Wells.. I did think the only conclusion was that she was already married or had been married before, after all she was 32 years old. , but then the 1911 census had her maiden name as Wells and single to boot.. I have a contact who has Ernest Pinder and wife on his tree but he's just as confused as I am, so is sending off for a marriage cert to confirm parents.. Will be interesting to see what it actually says.. :-S

Which marriage cert are you sending for?

She lied in 1911................

the gap between the births could be explained by War service..................do you know if Joseph served?

Treemadnancy

Treemadnancy Report 25 Jan 2015 13:23

Thanks Dea. The time of death would fit in with Laura and Joseph getting married in 1917.. After all she did have his first two sons....Will see if I can find him on the CCWW thingy (forgot the name) <3

Jacqueline. The chap in Canada who thinks he might be related to Ernest Pinder born 1911, son of Joseph and Laura Wells...

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Jan 2015 13:29

CWGC is the site you're thinking of

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Jan 2015 13:30

If you're getting only one cert, you should probably go for the 1917 one.. It would be the most informative, in that Laura's declared 'status' would be recorded, together with her father's name.

Don't forget that English marriage certs are not like Scottish ones - they only record the father's name and occupation. No info about mothers
