i have contacted other people whose surname is Manktelow but with not much success. A gentleman who has a George Manktelow has contacted me and some of the names i recgonise. I was wondering why my grandfather was sent to an Orphange in Derby.

If all you are interested in is why he was sent to a particular institution, I fear you may never find out, unless records can be found which explain it.

You'd have to contact the relevant authorities in both Counties, I would think

Not sure if you know name of Orphanage/Home, worth a google search if you do...

Thanks will have a go, my sister says it was in Derby but a cousin say it wasa railway orphanage in Woking
