Hi
I just wondered if someone would find me the 1911
Census of William Sheppard born about 1878 Nottingham
His Father was Thomas Sheppard born 1850 Nottingham

You have sent me his brothers and thier families on 1911 Census

Has anyone any idea why they sent people to
Notts Institutional Home
Skegness. Lincs
I have tied to Google it ??

Thankyou you all once again
Olive

Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar

On the image for the census in 1911 for Joseph (Jos) it says convalescent home for miners (and he was a clerk at the mine).

This appears to be his death,

Name: Joseph Sheppard
Birth Date: abt 1872
Date of Registration: Mar 1927
Age at Death: 55
Registration district: Basford
Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 370

so he didn't die in the institution in Skegness.

The Nottinghamshire Convalescence Home at Seathorne was established in 1891 as a result of a legacy left by Sir Charles Seeley, MP for Nottingham.

It afterwards became a miners’ convalescence home and in 1947 it was taken over by the new National Health Service as Seeley House men’s convalescence home.

The building was demolished in 1980.

Hi Jude
That is interesting re Nottinghamshire Covalescence Home
I expect miners went there if there illness was due to working at the Coal Mines

You think that William Sheppard died young
Thankyou for looking for me

The only way to be sure that is William would be to buy the certificate. The informant and address might give the pointer. It is quite a common name so depends how much you want to be sure. It certainly explains why he doesn't appear to be in the 1901 or 1911 censuses.

Hi Pricklyholly

Good Morning
Thankyou for finding the Army Records of George A Sheppard born 1896 Nottingham

So I will have go and look ion Ancestry in the local library
Thankyou again

On Ancestry it says "6 Images" but takes you in at page 114 ....if you scroll back as well back to page 102 is him as well. It's very poignant.....

I'd send it to you but you have to save each page separately. Probably best thing is to print out all pages from 102 to 119 and then scan and save as one document

I'd do it but it's not easy from home and I won't have time to do it in work tomorrow
