Found out why I couldn't trace brother Tom on the census ,he was much younger than Rose , maybe 14 years , so would have been too young for the 1911 census

Doesn't the record say she went to Nantyffyllon girl's school? so both schools were girls schools.

I notice she left the minute she hit age 14, ie her last day was 15/11/17, and her recorded birth date on the school record was 14/11/03, which differs slightly from the date of birth on her death record, that seemed to be the default age to leave the school, although the school leaving age wasn'r raised to 14 years until 1918.

this link will hopefully give you info on someone offering school admission look ups for Maesteg/Plasnewydd School Registers so may be worth asking if the poster has any info about Nantyffyllon school where the Rose Esther went before the girls school.

If you have Ancestry, sometimes easier to look for addresses on 1911 Census Summary Books...

(since changes, not always easy to find on FMP, takes a bit of 'playing around with' and patience, lol, sometimes you can be lucky straight away)

Chris :)

A Lambert family were at No 2 South Parade Maesteg in 1911, so no joy there either.

friendlywelshdragon Report 25 May 2015 21:33

Just a thought . Could the Jones's have been the parents of Rose's father . still can't find them in 1911 . And can't find brother Tom . If he was a full brother he would possibly be Davies as well. .

Kucinta Report 25 May 2015 21:29

Just looking at that school admission Chris posted.

Image says address is 2 South Parade, in case that helps identify the family in a census.

The Jones family obviously hadn't moved far if Rose Esther gave her address as 1 South Parade on her marriage.

Edit: No joy. A Yelland family were at No 1 South Parade in 1911. They had 10 rooms and several boarders - maybe Rose Esther was a boarder there at the time of her marriage?

Not sure now if I am wrong with that census. In1911 Rose is with her mother in Pontypridd .but in 1912 she is at school in Maesteg
In 1901The Jones family I found is in the Rhondda with a 7 month baby Rose . Could she have gone back to Mary Jane when she married Robert Wiliams . and come back to maesteg with the Jones 's later .I don't know how official the 'adoption' was.

friendlywelshdragon

friendlywelshdragon Report 25 May 2015 19:23

I didn't know when she was adopted .I know that she did have some contact with her birth mother , but it wasn't much talked about in the family . I think mary jane was married three times eventually . . but don't know any more .seems to be a tricky subject with the older members of my family so didn't like to ask too much Rose was my grandmother .

friendlywelshdragon

friendlywelshdragon Report 25 May 2015 19:12

it was a register office wedding witnesses were William Jones (his mark ) not sure if that' is her father or her brother . and Jessie Verity . The registrar was Graham M verity so possibly his wife or daughter

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 25 May 2015 19:05

I think you're right Chris, so that almost certainly eliminates her.

EDIT: Oops - so was it a late adoption then?

friendlywelshdragon

friendlywelshdragon Report 25 May 2015 19:04

You've got it . I found a birth certificate for Rose Esther Davis but wasn't sure that it was the right one , . Did know that her birth mother was Mary Jane but didn't know a surname .

friendlywelshdragon

friendlywelshdragon Report 25 May 2015 18:59

Rose was adopted by the Jones's So was her brother Tom (full brother as far as I know ) The Haverford west death is the right one but she was brought back to Maesteg and is buried with her husband
