Here's the UK Register of Soldiers Effects for the same man:

His widow's name was Annie. A total of £18 10s was paid to her for her own and Kathleen's benefit (Who was Kathleen? a daughter?)

MC - your post at 1542 today - Kathleen was the daughter born 1912 to the Palmers - I had left David to find that one himself having given the link to freebmd (my post at 1714 on 27th Sep). Along with Ivy who is recorded on the 1911 census they would be the 2 children David mentioned in his opening post. George Edward Seeley on the 1911 was Annie's child born before she married Robert Palmer.

Hi - I have long been trying to find a family for my great great great grandmother Elizabeth Sturgeon. She married Alfred John Dixon 13 Feb 1840 at St George Hanover Square, She states that her father was William Sturgeon, a tailor. The 1851 census gives her birth place as Bury, Suffolk, which I am assuming is Bury St Edmunds. They had 9 children. She died aged 43 in Harrow on May 1. The wedding certificate lists her father as William Sturgeon, tailor

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Apr 2017 08:07

Just for reference as you don't give her year of birth or death:

Death:
DIXON, ELIZABETH age 43
GRO Reference: 1861 J Quarter in HENDON Volume 03A Page 58

Have you considered that she may have lied about the name of her father?

Baptism:
Name(s) Elizabeth Sturgeon
Birth year 1818
Baptism year 1818
Baptism date 05 Apr 1818
Parish Hessett, St Ethelbert
Place Hessett
Relationship Daughter
Father's first name(s) -
Mothers first name(s) Mary
Residence Hessett
Notes bb; recd 6 Jan 1822
County Suffolk

First daughter was Matilda Mary- perhaps named after grandmother?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 14 Apr 2017 08:53

There is also this baptism closeby- the transcription gives father's occupation as farmer though:

irst name(s) Elizabeth
Last name Sturgeon
Birth year 1817
Baptism year 1817
Baptism date 30 Nov 1817
Parish Rushbrooke, St Nicholas
Place Rushbrooke
Relationship Daughter
Father's first name(s) William
Mothers first name(s) Hannah
Father's occupation Shepherd
Residence Rushbrooke
County Suffolk

None of the children are named for Hannah- so I don't think this one is likely.
