If she was in US until July 1926 as Waller and 1927/8 qualified as Teasdale then that should narrow it down a bit.Maybe!

thanks Kay??? but not "my" George Arthur. in Burnley.

I`ve now got a lot to go on thanks to all of you helping so I can have yet another go at finding George and Elizabeth`s wedding--it has to be somewhere!

They both had fascinating lives--what a shame no one of their generation on the Teasdale side knew what had become of him after his first wife died.

AustinQ Report 15 Apr 2016 17:56

I've never heard Elsie/ Elizabeth crossover, but I'm certain they are correct- she is listed as Elsie at her cousin's wedding in 1898 when she and her sisters were bridesmaids. Therefore, I don't think she was recorded wrongly on her first husband's death- but just recorded by the name her family called her.

EDIT: Googling does bring up some cases of Elsie being a shortened form of Elizabeth.

I can`t thank you all enough--all this information and so quickly.
The A. Teasdale is George--he was always known as Arthur. He came from quite humble beginings and went on to become an eminent doctor--Elizabeth obviously came from a privilidged family-- they both had a fascinating life what a shame that they went off the family radar and none of their generation on the Teasdale side knew what had become of them.

Fiona

Fiona Report 15 Apr 2016 15:26

lots to look at--the only fly being "Elsie"?, never heard of that being a diminutive of Elizabeth but there`s always a first.
Or the name was recorded wrongly--and that certainly wouldn`t be a first!
Please-what is "fibis"? I`ve been doing this family history stuff for several years but I haven`t come across that term before.

AustinQ Report 15 Apr 2016 11:44

This may also be of interest- it is about the same family (written 2004), but Elizabeth's 1st husband listed as James Walter (I think this is Cyprian Waller as he was known as Jim), and second husband A. Teasdale (which I suppose must be George).

AustinQ Report 15 Apr 2016 08:56

Elizabeth Helen Gracey was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Grace Ada

There are quite a few articles relating to Elizabeth's siblings/ cousins in the papers.

Elizabeth was also known as Elsie- an article in Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Friday 22 July 1898 describes the wedding of Miss Helen Furnivall- her bridesmaids were her cousins- Mary, Norah, ELSIE and Lily Gracey.

Brother Thomas (b1877) married Agnes Campbell Devon in India 1906

Sister Mary Kathleen (b1879) was tragically killed on the railway in 1902- several papers cover the story and inquest.

Sister Norah (b1881) married Reginald Darcy Anderson in 1907

Youngest sister Lily (b1893) married Benjamin Garnet Lampard-Vachell in 1932. There is a photo of the couple in the Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Friday 28 October 1932.

AustinQ Report 15 Apr 2016 07:10

The article above is regarding the marriage of Lorna Gracey (Possibly the daughter of Elizabeth's brother, Thomas). I suspect that those gifts were actually from Doctors Teasdale and MRS Waller.

Elizabeth's marriage from the Times of India- so The death of Cyprian in 1915 seems to be the correct person:

Elsie could be a diminutive of Elizabeth, and her age at Cyprian's death is OK

AustinQ--what a star, thank you. Please could you tell me how you found her? I thought the only way to do it would be to go back from her marriage to George which is the one I can`t find.
I did wonder if they`d married at sea as they were so fond of travel but I had no luck there either.
George is quite definitely George Arthur James although his name does sometimes appear in different forms which hasn`t helped.
Cyprian Hilton sounds intriguing doesn`t he?
I`ll have to come back to this tomorrow when I`ve digested everything you`ve sent.
thank you all.
