Shirley Report 16 Apr 2016 18:08

Thanks all...sorry...was working day and night last two days.
The pate family and pickles Mary Ann are mine. All the info is great. I've discovered today that the lady who thought she was a direct descendant of my Mary Ann pickles was following the wrong one for the last three or four years. She never noticed that my Mary Ann died as a pate in 1967 . Hers died in padiham as a Mary Annie hope in 1932 .
So while I'm happy she now has to start all over again so I wondered if anyone could help.
She has a Mary Ann pickles born in 1887 ...possibly todmorden ...who had a child William Victor pickles out of wedlock in 1910 in Walsden todmorden . She then went on to marry a Henry hope in 1912 in padiham.
On the marriage certificate there is no father named for her. On her son William victors birth certificate there is no father named for him either. We are unable to find William Victor pickles on the 1911 census aged 1 or Mary Ann pickles previous to her marriage to Henry hope in 1912. I think that the only hope is perhaps the electoral lists to see if there is a clue as to who lived in the house in Walsden in 1910.
Can anyone out there help with this ?

Hi safc
Wondering if there is a connection to the radcliffes? Strange how it says widow...but no dad's name on William victors birth certificate. Wondering now if she ever even got married before...apparently on marriage certificate she was a spinster ....but at least we have managed to discover them on the 1911 ...great detective work .
:-) :-D

Thinking maybe margaret radcliffe could be Mary Annie's aunty then ..or Henry radcliffe? There are things to go on anyway. Think will try to track Thomas pickles. (Royles)...he could be brother to Mary Annie. Perhaps they put widow on census to cover up that she was single with a child ? ;-) :-)

Shirley

Shirley Report 17 Apr 2016 08:17

Of course I am assuming that Thomas royles is also pickles when you look at the census page ? He may really be royles? :-S :-)

Shirley

Shirley Report 17 Apr 2016 08:47

Thinking then that the only Mary Annie pickles she could be is the one born in Keighley district in 1887 December quarter. Howarth is in that district. So that narrows it down to one possible hopefully. And if there is anyone out there who can find Mary Annie or Mary Anne pickles in the 1891 age 4 born howarth or Keighley that would be great. :-)

Thanks dea
Can't find another Mary Ann born that year or thereabouts so it could be this one. Can't understand though why she wouldn't put her dad's name on her wedding certificate then. Very strange . I was expecting a fatherless Mary Anne .....unless James was her step dad ....maybe we will never know. I will tell Kathleen...who incidentally is the girl in the article who was run over...that she perhaps needs to try the Mary Anne pickles born in Keighley district birth certificate to see what it says.

Hi
So is this William pickles and Mary hollings? Living together ...is she still down as hollings ? :-S. Confused.... :-)

Shirley

Please could someone put more detail on that William pickles 1891 census if possible? On freebmd there is one in 1886...so if it's not the 1887 Keighley Mary Ann it should in theory be the December quarter 1886 Keighley one...am I clutching at straws ? Still wondering if William was her dad why she didn't name him on her wedding cert. :-S :-)

Thank you Dea,

Was the Mary your looking for definitely born 1887 or are you just going by census and marriage record?

I was just finding one around that date and one that was missing in 1911 census around Howarth.

That is why I came up with the one born to William Pickles and Mary Hannah Pickles nee Hollings.
