Have you bought all the relevant birth, marriage and death certificates so that you can confirm all information, and find out extra details of your ancestors, back to 1837, before you go further back?

Take out a trial ancestry membership so you can look at the tree information, and maybe make contact with the tree owner?

Chris gave you a link to freereg, it is worth using to help you find out about Joseph Cooke and Eliza Holland.

Olive, your library may have a sub for Ancestry - worth checking. As well as freereg that Chris has mentioned, there is Freecen that have transcripts of the earlier census. Remember that there is also the Familysearch site.

Chris Ho :) Report 2 Sep 2016 18:40

I just added it as a point of reference, for Joseph being there 1835...It was a lengthy article about a fight where one person died, Joseph was one of a number of witnesses who spoke...

(and looking at Deaths, Lupton 1835 Notts. looks to be named Joseph, would have been about 21yrs, other party involved was Thomas Austin, who worked for brother of Joseph Cooke, his name not mentioned)

Chris :)
