yup finally got to chat to Christine Frizzell and she confirmed that her grandmother Mary Frances Nelson (formerly Fleming) had a very strong Irish accent and stated that her sister Clarice said she was from County Cork....that would clinch my suspicion that she is who I thought she was.

This evening I got Richard Henry Nelson's birth certificate so I now can confirm his mother was Emily Duffy (sounds like another Irish name to me).

So I think the answer to my question who were the mothers of Richard Henry Nelson & Mary Frances Fleming is-

Emily Duffy
Mary Lynch

This ancestry search could be so much easier if the English marriage licenses followed the Scottish system.....so much more info on Scottish marriage licenses.

Hi AustinQ it's a good question unfortunately I have absolutely no idea :-)

My main research was to discover who the mother of Mary Frances Nelson (formerly Fleming). It occurred to me the easiest way to resolve this is to simply ask one of her surviving grandchildren whether she was Irish.

If so this will confirm the Cork suggestion and that her mother was Mary Lynch who married James Fleming in 1891 Cork.

I think Chris is wondering the same as me- they seem to have had several children before they married -yet neither, according to their marriage certificate, was married before- so why did they wait?

All the suggested evidence points to Mary Frances Fleming daughter of James Fleming coming from Ireland.

Laird..Why are you looking for MF and James particularly in the Co.Cork.?

A broad search for births for James Fleming in the Cork area revealed 10 called James Fleming from 1861-81. This is unlikely to reveal much as not enough information was as seen above is available on his marriage license.

I'm rather surprised these results did not come up here- https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk but it looks like the answer to my original question is now solved.

The mother of Mary Francis Fleming is Mary Lynch of Ireland.

That was the final piece of my puzzle in my search for the 16 great great grandparents in my family lineage.

So basically ROOTSIRELAND.ie found this using my broad search-

but of the two only one shows the correct father and correct name....however the birth date doesn't quite tally......however my money is on this lady-
