Mum says Alice is Agnes and she does live in Poole, we just never seen her for some reason but she was born Alice and everyone called her Agnes.

I see from the other thread that you're struggling with the information given here.

Start at the beginning- do you have your Grandmother's marriage certificate?

The index for her marriage was posted earlier by Shirley:

If you don't have the certificate you can order it here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

You can use the Volume and page number from above to order. Certificates cost £9.25. The marriage certificate will confirm who Esther's father is.

Natasha - you might well decide you need to buy some Irish BMD.certs.

You ought to know that the GRO for Ireland (I forget what they''re called now) will sell something cheaper, namely "uncertified" images of the original registers - it's even cheaper if you give the reference info. The only difference is for an official bmd.cert, someone digitally sticks the image on a certificate page, and a registrar certifies this is a true copy of the original entry and signs the page.

I exaggerated when I said "the only difference" - there is also a legal difference, and uncertified copies aren't accepted for purposes like establishing citizenship, or getting passports, etc.
