They might not have lived there for long, or even at all.

Helen might have gone there to have the baby ..............

Babies were generally born at home, but it was quite common into the 1950's for local midwives or nurse to have 1 or 2 rooms in her house where expectant mothers went to have their babies ............ one of James Herriot's books describes his wife doing just that when their first child was born!

She might have been evacuated there from elsewhere, eg, London.

Potty Report 4 Sep 2016 15:17

As Herbert is not with the family in 1939, that would probably indicate that he was in one of the Services. What occupation is given on children's birth certs?

Tracey

Tracey Report 4 Sep 2016 14:59

Theodora street is Ardwick Manchester 12 .that the one on my dads birth certificate so surly they must have lived there in 1944 year of birth. I have been trying grandads number in thing but nothing coming up. Could he have been a special P.C because off war time.

Chris Ho :) Report 4 Sep 2016 14:41

Chris :)

(At 8 Theodore, 1939 was a Kathleen E. Smart (b. 1912) a Daughter, and a Beatrice Wain (b. 1901)

Thank you all so much I'm over whelmed with your responses . I have marriage cert for Helen and Herbert Tomlinson 1931 have the family on Tomlinson side. Helen says her father was a collier name Thomas Egan. Looked for him too, nothing. They lived 5 new bank st Ardwick Manchester . I did go down the Livesey route and got the marriage certificate but was wrong one... But thank you all so so much I'm amazed. Have been trying to trace her for long time now but with illness can get out and about like I would need to. Many many thanks.... Bless you all..

Re the 1939 register .........

Livesey (Tomlinson) Household (2 People) 16 Eskrigge Street , Manchester C.B., Lancashire, England

First name(s) Last name(s) DOB Occupation
Helen Livesey (Tomlinson) 12 Aug 1906 Unpaid Domestic Duties
Eric Tomlinson 21 Feb 1935 At School

If you look at the image, her name is shown as Tomlinson, then crossed out and Livesey written above it in green, with some letters and numbers written in the left hand column

This means that a correction was made AFTER her second marriage. The 1939 Register was used as the basis for the NHS Register in 1947, and was continually updated with future marriages, and deaths from then to about 1991, . FMP is now updating.

For some unknown reason, FMP Preview shows the LAST married name with previous surnames in brackets.

This seems to be confusing lots of people.
