Thank you both Jan and Kath for your help finding this info.

I will have a look at margaret's tree and see if I can make contact :-)

Once I have gathered all this information together, I will be looking at William to see where he fits in with the family :-D

Hopefully it won't be too complicated.

Thanks again

I am still trying to work out Lily's Birth...

I thought I had found her death which stated her birth as 13 May 1900

but ...in the 1911 census - taken 2 April it states Lily as 11 years old, which she wouldn't be until May??!!

Oh i'm so confused :-S :-S :-S :-S

Any help would be appreciated.

Kay????

Why not buy a copy of her marriage certificate it will give her age and fathers name.

I wonder if the 1939 register I posted is her.as she isnt with who you know is her husband and family, going on his age in 1939 she could have been a simlar age.

If you buy her birth certificate (the second birth record given by malyon earlier) then you will have her exact date of birth.

I expect that if she was very nearly 11 years old in the 1911 census then they may have just said 11 instead of almost 11.

I think I've found her- looks like she didn't stay with husband.

This is her birth:

WILKINS, LILY MAY (Mother's maiden name: WATKINS )
GRO Reference: 1900 J Quarter in BRIDGEND Volume 11A Page 856 Occasional Copy: A

She also had a sibling born after the 1911 census:

WILKINS, CLARENCE (Mother's maiden name: WATKINS)
GRO Reference: 1912 S Quarter in BRIDGEND Volume 11A Page 1874
----------------------------------------

This is Clarence in 1939 (Note the Lily at the same address)

Morrice Household (3 People) 1 Leicester Road , Luton M.B., Bedfordshire, England

Lily Mrs (Tom) Morrice 13 May 1901 Female Theater Cleaner Domestic Duties Married
William R Roberts 14 Aug 1911 Male Aircraft Slotter Single
Clarence Wilkins 03 Jul 1912 Male Surface Grinder Single
-------------------------------------

Her death is listed under two names- indicating that she went by the surname Morrice, but was still legally surname Adams:

Death:
Name: Lily May Morrice
Name: Lily May Adams

Birth Date: 13 May 1900
Date of Registration: Sep 1975
Age at Death: 75
Registration district: Luton
Inferred County: Bedfordshire
Volume: 9 Page: 0361

The Bedfordshire electoral registers are online at Ancestry.

1938/ 39- she is using her maiden name:

1 Leicester Road, Luton
Thomas Morrice
Lily May Wilkins
Clarence Wilkins
William Roberts
---------------------------------------

In 1937 Thomas Morrice is living at 32 Pine Street, Luton. He is living with a Lily Jean Adams- who I suspect is your Lily.

AustinQ Report 2 May 2017 10:52

Thomas does not appear on the electoral register with Lily after the war- this could be Thomas' death:

UK, Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945
Name: Thomas Morrice
Given Initials: T
Rank: Gunner
Age: 37
Death Date: 17 Apr 1945
Number: 1073668
Birth Place: Aberdeen
Residence: Bedfordshire
Regiment at Enlistment: Royal Artillery
Branch at Enlistment: Royal Artillery
Theatre of War: Western Europe Campaign, 1944/45
Regiment at Death: Royal Artillery

And, just to confirm the above information is correct, Lily's daughter, Mary E (born 1927), married Bertram Chainey in 1947.

On the 1949 electoral register, Mary and Bertram are living with Lily in Luton:

1949 electoral register
1 Leicester Road, Luton

Bertram W Chainey
Mary E Chainey
Alex Morrison
Lily Morrice

Thank you all so much for all your help.

Austin.... You have definitely cracked it. A family member has said that Morrice definitely rings a bell. And so does Bertram!!

Also kay and kath for your input!!
