Don't be surprised. We had a similar rumour in our family dating back to the Battle of Waterloo. I researched my line and could find no such link.

Hi George,

The family you are looking for are recorded in this tree on familysearch and seem to originate from Yorkshire via John Pollard c1791. The John Pollard c1787 connected to Nelson originates from Devon/Cornwall.

Matilda's probate in 1889 confirms Cecilia was still a spinster - so the marriage posted by Malyon would not be correct.

Added Cecilia died 23/9/1901, and her probate also confirmed she was a spinster - probate was granted to sisters Mary Jane (spinster) and Emily Symons (who is now a widow)

Of the 6 children John had, the only male was Horatio John, who appears to have died without getting married. If your friend is a descendant, it would be more likely that she is decended from one of the unmarried daughters? Might be worth following them through to later census.
