This is all great, this was my brick wall for years until i ordered Marthas death cert and found the surname McGeehan as her mothers maiden name. For some reason in 1930 in Scotland Martha gave up her 1st baby for foster care and she was named as Martha Cunningham and her Mother Margaret Cunningham. Her son was Arthur Cunningham and in his 20s he found his mum and fitted straight back into the family. 1932 she had another child but was under the name McDermid which is meant to be her fathers name even though he was not on her birth cert and she carried on with that name until she got married. On her marriage cert it had her mum down as Margaret McDermid nee Cunningham. No marriages at all for these name changes i just think lies lies and more lies for some reason. I can understand if Martha had the name McDermid if that was her fathers name but why Cunningham, that is the mystery. I Guess unless i can get in contact with one of Margaret's siblings children then i might never know :-S

Just looked back Jane is Sarah Jane, thought that was another one but must be still Jeanie. All the ages match as well and like you said on the other one about Sarah Jane and Charles there ages do seem to be the wrong way round

I bet Jane is the Jeanie i was looking for

Think this is them!! They're listed with surname Conoghan?!

Conoghan Charles 56 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Co Donegal Farm Labourer Married -
Conoghan Sarah 45 Female Wife Roman Catholic Co Donegal House Keeper Married -
Conoghan Mary 13 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Co Donegal Scholar Not Married -
Conoghan Maggie 12 Female Daughter Roman Catholic Co Donegal Scholar Not Married -

The census return is signed with the mark of Charles- but as he couldn't read I'm not sure how he could tell it was correct!

I thought they'd be in this area:

I don't see them either at the moment.

Father, Charles was involved in a work dispute in 1895- he was absent without cause or leave and was ordered to pay £1 in damages to his employer. Charles abode is given as Ballylevin.

Son, Charles was born December 1896 at Ballylevin- so I assume the family would still be in the area 1901.

Can anyone find them on the 1901 census please

♥♥♥Debbie♥♥♥ Report 17 May 2017 16:38

Yes that's what I thought. Maybe they just didn't bother for some reason. This crazy family seem to have a lot going on later on so it wouldn't surprise me

Baby Martha McGeehan should be on the 1911 census somewhere as she was born January 1911 but I don't see an obvious entry for her.

Brother Charles, was born in 1896 - the 1911 seems to have siblings, Sarah and Charles the wrong way round age wise.

Charles married Mary MCMENIMIN 20th November 1925 at Letterkenny. At the time Charles was still living at Moneyhaughley, Manorcunningham.

Here's Bridget's death. Maybe the informant was one of her children. If any of her children were born in Scotland, the birth certificate will give the date and place of Bridget's marriage. Might be difficult though with the surname Smith.

Margaret's parents (Charles McGeehan & Sarah Mckinley) married 1886 Londonderry,

You can see the birth certificates and marriage certificate at the link safc gave:

Margaret's sister Bridget was born in 1890 at Ballylevin.

Her sister, Mary, was born 1887 Londonderry.

Her brother William was born 1892 at Ballylevin,

I presume that Jeanie (that registered her father's death) was Sarah Jane- she was born 1894
