Maybe you can help re McCombe - I have just taken out free trial on US Ancestry, and have found under 1870 Federal for CA John McComb (no e) and Sarah, Geo, John, Mary, Thos - I think this must be the right family. Free trial doesn't let me see any more details - address and place of birth which I would be very grateful to know. Many thanks, Miranda

Sorry Miranda. I've been looking with the E lol Normally on Ancestry US, the names are spelled right. I'll check all the others for without the E. It certainly looks like them in 1870. I think they must've been in Australia in 1860. They have a son, aged 10, born there. John Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1827 England White Male Sarah Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1832 Scotland White Female John Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1849 Scotland White Male Ann Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1854 California White Female Geo Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1856 Pacific Ocean White Male Mary Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1858 Australia White Female Thos Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1860 Australia White Male Edward Mccomb San Francisco Ward 11, San Francisco, CA abt 1865 California White Male The 1890 census didn't survive very well, so there is very little of it around. They won't be found there.

Tracey thanks for that I was beggining to think my mother in law was not who she said she was. Maragret daisy Ward said spinster on her marriage cert. I found a birth for the same name in mar qtr 1905 which is the quarter she was married in. I wonder if that was her with a very late registration for her Birth. Did that happen??

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 28 Jul 2005 13:17

I suppose anything is possible. Perhaps they didn't register her when she was born, and since that was illegal, they did it before her marriage? Only way to be sure is to buy it I'm afraid. Since you know her father's name, you can ask for a reference check on this. They will refund you part of the money if it's not the same.

I just ordered it. I did not specify the father since I thought maybe this birth might be an illegitimate daughter for my Margaret Daisy. Thank you for your help. I looked at the 1837 sheets I had printed down yesterday and found Maragaret d Smart just where you said she was. I must have been having a senior day!!!

Tracey Could you please look up Thomas Moorer on british origins. I did a search and there seems to be a marriage and a burial listed. I am looking for a Thomas moorer married to Matilda. Their children were born early 1820's in St. Mary Lambeth but I have had no joy with their marriage. They had an earlier Child also Thomas Moorer. I found his marriage and the father is my Thomas. thanks kathy

Sorry John, I can only do household lookups for the censuses. You need an Electoral Role lookup. I'm not sure where you get these from. Probably the local library.

Hi Tracy Another one for me please. Harry Richard Lambert b.1877 +1-1. Father Daniel, possibly Sussex or Surrey. Can you try the 1891 census. Thanks a lot for your time. Regards Bob.

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 29 Jul 2005 10:34

Bob, I can't find him in Surrey or Sussex. Do you have any details of the 1881 or 1901 censuses?

Bob

Bob Report 29 Jul 2005 13:14

Hi Tracy Sorry didnt come back but had to pop off to work. No I havnt got any details from any census. Even 1881,if you can find anything would be useful. I know he joined the Sussex Regiment 1914 and I believe you had to live in Sussex to do that. But I think,as the story goes, he moved down there for that reason. Could you try Daniel Lambert b1844 perhaps the 1851 onwards. Sorry to be a pain, and thanks again for your time. Regards Bob
