Sharron, I can't get to your part of the country - otherwise I would love to wave Fred off on his next journey.

Would be great if you could get to Birmingham. As Paula says, loads of places to eat. We could look out for somewhere away from the hustle bustle of the City centre.

Paula, have been to the pub in Sutton Park. A lovely carvery (spl?) A great place to chat to friends but perhaps a bit far from New Street.

I don't think the funeral will be this week. I can't even get the death certificate until tomorrow.

Hello Florence.

I don't remember the little train, it must have come later. The boating lake was tidal and before it was cleared we used to play on the scrub and build dens. We were quite upset when we went back one year and found it had all been dug out.

We used to go into Worthing and play the penny slot machines on the pier, but I didn't like the gaps between the boards -- you could see too much sea!

Sharron - I would love to come but I think I am too tied up with things this week.

So,all you people who are not too far away. Why don't you come and see Fred off?

I am sure we could get you from the station and the crem to the hall.

Tess. There is a very nice pub in Sutton Park overlooking the lake.

Yes Huia, you do need a passport...... If I remember correctly, about 35-40 years ago NZ & Oz didn't need passports to visit each other.

I know my passport has expired, not sure where it is...... in the safe probably, and the safe is in Harry Potter's bedroom, and I can't get in there!

:-D

Do I need a passport to visit Oz, LS? I don't have one. Not that I can afford the time to go tripping over there at present. Far too much to do at home. :-(

I'm in Birmingham too. trying to think of a quiet pub not too far from the station.

Is there one at Canon Hill Park?

At least if the weather was good everyone could sit outside before/after the meal.

Otherwise there is Sutton Park - but that is a bit further out.

Brooklands Park?

I too have happy memories of Lancing. Did my training at the Skillcentre there.

I was born in Shoreham (don't remember much about it though), we lived in Worthing at the time (don't remember much about that either, cos we moved to Wales when I was very young)
However, my nephew and daughter both live in Worthing now - just round the corner from each other :-D
I've visited my nephew (before my daughter lived there) - but was taken by my sister and didn't have the chance to visit the 'old home'.
Am due to visit /stay with my daughter some time this year - chickened out just before Christmas as one of her beloved cats had just died.

I used to spend Sunday afternoons with my dad in a park at Lancing. It had a boating lake and a little train that went right around the lake. I think it's still there but probably has other attractions now.

My dad has just leased a shop in Shoreham on the other side of the footbridge which he tells me is brand new and replaces the old one that i used to walk over with my grandad in the 70's.

Such lovely memories coming back.

Hope lots of you manage to meet, just so wish i was coming down but not this year maybe next.

What memories are coming back. We used to spend all our Easters in Lancing just a step from the beach. It was quite wild then - we stayed on the Worthing side and would sometimes be walking past the train works when the hooter went off - surprised we didn't go deaf!

Although I have lived in Scotland for the last 30 years, I know the South coast well and have lived in Southsea, Fareham and Curdridge, and worked in Winchester. My sister lived on Hayling Island and MIL in Shoreham.

I am coming south in the first week of June to visit elder son in Basingstoke and would love to meet up. The adults will be at work and the children at school, so a pub lunch sounds great.

Sharron/Island can you get into Birmingham? New Street station is so accessible, and lots of places to eat.
