If you want to message me I have these people in my tree. Only just rejoined the site so it seems like fate I've just seen this post. Gypsy births often weren't registered by the way, John.

I haven't read all the thread so I wont say I have, but they were Romany gypsies and my cousins and I have Mears and Deacons in our trees...flower shops in the south of England but travelled widely. Intermarried with Bacons and Roberts too.

From the link RRose gave

My grandfather Charles was born to Rebecca Mears who married Charles Bacon in Hasting/Ore in 1880 Charles then married Louisa Deacon in Brighton,

Unless I've misunderstood, I think John has confused the 2 Charles.
Charles Mears married Louise Deacon in 1887
Rebecca Mears, his mother, married Charles Bacon in 1880...and was still living with him in 1911

Here's Charles Mears in 1911, living with his wife Louise

Charles Mears

Although one name is missing, I suspect this is her marriage
Rebecca Mears
Registration Year: 1880
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration district: Hastings
Inferred County: Sussex
Volume: 6b
Page: 44

Her 1911 entry does suggest its the correct marriage rather than for her 'daughter'

Name: Rebecca Bacon
Age in 1911: 74
Estimated birth year: abt 1837
Relation to Head: Wife
Gender: Female
Birth Place: Sussex
Civil Parish: Hastings
Search Photos: Search for 'Hastings' in the UK City, Town and Village Photos collection
County/Island: Sussex
Country: England
Street address: 94 Red Lake Ore Hastings
Marital Status: Married
Years Married: 31 <<<<<
Estimated Marriage Year: 1880
Registration district: Hastings
Registration District Number: 69
Sub-registration district: Ore
ED, institution, or vessel: 4
Household schedule number: 272

Charles Bacon 75
Rebecca Bacon 74
Samuel Elliott 25
Nellie Harris 17

Unless she miss understood the instructions, she'd have witnessed her son's marriage as a Bacon not a Mears. So that one can be ruled out.
