Hello Francis, thank you for your very kind offer.

I wonder if you could look any thing up on David Hatelie, 1863-1904. He was born in Montreal and died on board the P&O steamer Ceylon on 26 Dec 1904. He was seemingly an Engineer Commander when he died.

His wife was Rhoda Louisa nee Fowler and I would love to find out where they are buried. I have census information on Rhoda and David and their family but if you could find out anything outwith the census I would be so pleased.

Here's hoping..Liz

Dear Francis

It is very kind of you to offer look ups.

I am not at all sure if you can find anything on Nathaniel BIRD (born 1895 in Rugby Warwickshire).

He was in the Navy, I think, during WW1. I only know that from a photograph and on a postcard he says he is in Portsmouth.

If this is too vague, I quite understand!

Regards

Janet

Hi Francis, thank you very much for this offer. I have been going round in circles with this one for quite a while'

My Gt Grandmother was Sarah LITTLE she married Jesse COX at King Street Chapel Portsea Island in September 1841 her father is given as John LITTLE Ordnance Department. In the 1851 census Sarah's age is given as 36 making her DOB c1815.

In the 1841 I can find a Sarah Little aged 22 with father John Little aged 52 a mariner, his wife Ann aged 40 and 4 other children,

Could you please look for the baptism/birth of Sarah and the marriage of John Little to Ann. The only marriage I have been able to find is of a John Little to Elizabeth Allen. But I think there are two John Littles around at the same time in Portsea.

Hi Francis.
DonĀ“t know if you will be able to look at Catholic records.
Have Agnes How(e) bapt 14.5.1813 Gosport RC. Parents Walter & Frances How(e).
RC records often give more info than CofE .Trying to establish if her father was a seaman. Think she is elder sister of my gg randmother Ann Howe.
Family originated in the North East.
Thanks for the offer.

Are you sure it is Sandown Portsmouth and not Isle of Wight?

Sue,

Check your notes again. You have her from Sandport in your tree on here. This is should be Landport.

You say she is Hebden but is this from any certificates? She marries as Mary Ann Walker. Check FreeBMD and IGI. Her mother married John Hebdon after she was born:

From IGI:

JOHN HEBDEN

Marriages:
Spouse: HELEN WALKER
Marriage: 30 MAY 1859 Leith, Midlothian, Scotland

What maiden name is listed on Mary Ann's childrens' birth certificates?

Seeing as she was 18 in 1870, this is probably her birth registration:

Births Jun 1852
Walker Mary Ann Portsea 2b 332

No wonder I was confused, I didn't make the link between Sandown and Landport!
