I have an insurmountable brick wall.......Help.please.......

2 brothers that I am unable to find a death for. Croydon family.''

Stephen Arthur Jackson born 1904.... married Amy Alice Snow 1925.
must have been divorced as Amy Alice married again 1938.
Stephen back living with parents (electoral roll 1939)

Benjamin James Jackson born 1910. No further information on him

One of the brothers known as Jack according to family information died at dunkirk. ? Certainly during the war. No one left alive can give me any further information.
Have not been able to find either on CWGC or FMP ww2 death records.

There is also a connection to Hull..... !!! ..... Have found a marriage of a Arthur S Jackson to Muriel Thompson Sep Q. 1941. Hull ?? But if he is Jack then1940 Dunkirk Death is not him...

Have tried to explain as best I can..... Thank you.

What a person was 'known' as, doesn't necessarily have any bearing on the correct name

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 27 Aug 2014 13:28

Did SA perhaps reverse his names, as had been done with the brother in1911?

Who registered the deaths of the parents?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 27 Aug 2014 13:37

The only way to find out if the 1941 marriage was your relly is to get a copy of the cert for his father's details

Thank you Jacqueline.I only put "Known as" because that is all the information my OH can give me...Uncle Jack died at Dunkirk...!!!!
These 2 brothers not accounted for out of a family of 10 The object is to find whether just one or both brothers died in WW2 . And ultimately which one had the nick name Jack

I have no other information for Benjaman James after the 1911 census. Have looked for death & marriage. nothing.

Sorry to ask, but are you totally sure that this Uncle Jack was a Jackson?

Could he have been an uncle from the maternal line?

Jack was the common diminutive for John.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 27 Aug 2014 15:46

Hi Jacqueline... No these are not his parents... They are Edward Jackson & Kate/Kathleen Simmon(d)s. Have M. cert. Also the birth/death certs for the 2 who died. 1st. & 3rd. children of 10.
Stephen Arthur was 2nd. My M in L was 6th. There is another possible death in 1917. George. ./mother Simmons.
Have ordered the Marriage cert for Arthur S Jackson that you kindly found for me & will go from there. Will take about 10 working days !! My how the price has shot up since I last ordered any.Was £7+ then
Went back to my electoral roll copy for 1939. He was registered as Arthur Stephen on there so it is looking good.

Thank you

Margaret in Sussex Report 2 Sep 2014 15:19

Have recieved Marriage cert for Arthur S Jackson today.

Definitely not the right one... In fact could hardly be more wrong.

Age , Condition, profession , father's name etc. All Wrong.....

So sadly back to square one ..

Am waiting for death cert of James B Jackson, but that , if the correct person , will only indicate that the brother referred to as "Jack" was Arthur Stephen Jackson.

So back to.. did he die during ww2 as OH said ? ...if so... Where is he hiding.? .

I have FMP copy of ww2 deaths other ranks.. for all Jackson's.. Unless I am missing something, he is not on there..
