I have the wedding certificate for Rose Esther Jones in 1921 when she was living in 1 South Parade Maesteg
Groom Stephen Evans Age 39 25 Castle Street Maesteg Fathers name William Evans
Bride Rose Esther Jones Age 20 1 South Parade Maesteg Fathers name William Jones

Also have a grave record for
William Jones died June 1926 age 64
Willam Jones Died Oct 1925 age36
Annie E Jones 1941 age74
Edward jones died July 1933 age 35

I thought I had them in 1901
but Annie and William jones age does not match the grave record And the boys are not listed so must be the wrong one

I know that Rose wad adopted and had a brother Tom (or Thomas )who was a bus driver in Maesteg in the 1950s /1960s

Rose was adopted by the Jones's So was her brother Tom (full brother as far as I know ) The Haverford west death is the right one but she was brought back to Maesteg and is buried with her husband

You've got it . I found a birth certificate for Rose Esther Davis but wasn't sure that it was the right one , . Did know that her birth mother was Mary Jane but didn't know a surname .

I think you're right Chris, so that almost certainly eliminates her.

it was a register office wedding witnesses were William Jones (his mark ) not sure if that' is her father or her brother . and Jessie Verity . The registrar was Graham M verity so possibly his wife or daughter

I didn't know when she was adopted .I know that she did have some contact with her birth mother , but it wasn't much talked about in the family . I think mary jane was married three times eventually . . but don't know any more .seems to be a tricky subject with the older members of my family so didn't like to ask too much Rose was my grandmother .

Not sure now if I am wrong with that census. In1911 Rose is with her mother in Pontypridd .but in 1912 she is at school in Maesteg
In 1901The Jones family I found is in the Rhondda with a 7 month baby Rose . Could she have gone back to Mary Jane when she married Robert Wiliams . and come back to maesteg with the Jones 's later .I don't know how official the 'adoption' was.

Hi Chris how do you find the addresses on the 1911 census . the record I found only has name occupation and birthplace on the image

Just looking at that school admission Chris posted.

Image says address is 2 South Parade, in case that helps identify the family in a census.

The Jones family obviously hadn't moved far if Rose Esther gave her address as 1 South Parade on her marriage.


Edit: No joy. A Yelland family were at No 1 South Parade in 1911. They had 10 rooms and several boarders - maybe Rose Esther was a boarder there at the time of her marriage?

Just a thought . Could the Jones's have been the parents of Rose's father . still can't find them in 1911 . And can't find brother Tom . If he was a full brother he would possibly be Davies as well. .

A Lambert family were at No 2 South Parade Maesteg in 1911, so no joy there either.

They are big houses they may have had lodgers ..Rose was living at number 1 on the wedding certificate but I remember them living at number six They had 10 children .
