Hi

I am trying to confirm that Mary Ethal Gray married George William Stainton in 1908.

Mary Ethal Gray was born in Scunthorpe Lincs and her parents were James and Alice Gray (nee Elvidge).

I have a possible marriage for her in 1908 in louth, Lincs. I do not have access to Ancestry so I tried to find them on the 1911 census site but failed. This marriage was on FreeBMD.

I have a possible death in 1947 in Keddington Lincs, she was aged 56 and was living in the Memorial Hospital Scunthorpe. In the notes it says "note in margin section 1c.8" Source Freereg2. I do not know what this means. I think this is probably her as the age and area are right.

Please could someone see if they can find Mary and George on the 1911 Census. Thanks for helping me

Jane.

Did you think of looking for children after 1911, when MMN is on the index?

Jane Report 26 May 2015 09:19

Thank you very much for helping me Gritty. You have found my family. Please can you tell me what relationship Charles Gray was to her. She had a brother Charles but he was younger than her.

Thanks again

Thanks Jacqueline.

Yes I did. I found 5 possibles all born Louth..
Georgina M b 1912
Frederick C b1914
John b 1920
Joan b 1921
Basil born 1929

However I didn't know about Charles.

also there was only one marriage beween a Gray and Stainton so they had to be hers. I had previously thought that she married a MR Would in 1914. Which just goes to show that you have to confirm everything you find.

Thanks again for helping me

Hi Jacqueline.

Thanks for your help

Well that extra information from the 1911 census makes me think that maybe this is not my Mary Ethal. Oh dear further investigation is required.

All the best

Thanks Jacqueline

That's true she seems to have disappeared off the 1901. I will have to have a look into that. I can account for one of the children who died but not the other so perhaps it was her. I will take a closer looks at the deaths.

All the best

I have had a look at the deaths on FreeBMD and I can't find her there. So I guess she must be hiding somewhere.

Thanks again

Thanks ArgyllGran and Yvonne

I do not know anything about him. I only found out about a possible marriage today. But if the 1911 census is correct then it doesn't look as if she married him. I will have to take another look at the marriage between a Mary E gray and a mr Charles W Would in Gainsborough Mar 1914. I am just guessing here I have no idea if she married or not.
