Ooh, interesting! I wonder why he changed his name?

As the 1901 census posted by Rootgatherer on page 1 is definitely the family, this will be James in 1891:

My Thoughts too Argyllgran.
16yr old Bessie fits the profile of his sister and there is a big gap in ages with the other "Cunningham" children

It's only recorded once but, it's indexed on SP twice to reflect two surnames of Elizabeth
Each entry has the same index number : 644/14 0267
It's the same cert

Just found something else with a wedding photo!

Educated guess says that Alexander John Cameron who married Agnes Cunningham had a brother named Willliam Dawson Cameron.
( Mother's maiden name was Dawson)

Dundee Courier : MONDAY 24 Dec 1934
PERTH MAN WEDS
The wedding took place at The Church Of John The Evangelist Edinburgh on Saturday of Mr William Dawson Cameron, son of the late Mr & Mrs AJ Cameron of Beechwood, Perth and Miss Evelyn Anne Hume of Edinburgh.
Photo shows the bridal party.

If and it's a big if without looking at this marriage cert....
If William's brother Alexander John happened to be his brother's best man, then he is in the photo.

There is also a Forthcoming Marriage announcement in The Scotsman dated 24 Nov 1934.
Evelyne Anne Hume was the daughter of AR Hume 17 Buckingham Terr, Edinburgh

There are a number of articles in various newspapers prior to 1934 relating to AJ Cameron who I think was the father.
If I've got the right man, he was a Cabinetmaker. AJ & D Cameron .

I also picked up that AJ Cameron (junr) had 1000 shares in The Oban Distillery Co
His address matched with William's address on the marriage announcement.
Need to recheck but I'm sure it was dated 1924

Thank you so much for this information

I am gonna have a look now X

ArgyllGran Report 17 May 2016 19:58

The Oban Distillery Co bought the existing distillery in 1924, according to this:

http://tinyurl.com/zlro6bo
so that's why AJC bought his shares, I expect. Maybe that's when he became manager.

Although he is stated to be a distillery manager on his marriage cert in 1936, Oban distillery was mothballed 1931-37, also per that page.

EEK !
Found another Article in the Dundee Courier.

By the look of things, AJ Cameron ( Snr) wasn't the Cabinetmaker.
( discovered that was a firm of 3 brothers named A. J & D Camero

AJ Cameron (Snr) was a Director in John Dewars Distillery.Perth
He died 26 Aug 1928 and he wasn't from Perth... He was born in Dingwall.
His moveable estate totalled over £211,000

I've put the article in the same keepsake folder for you to read

Glasgowlass - the link to the folder on Keepsafe doesn't work. Anyone who clicks on it gets taken to their own Keepsafe.

Open each individual image etc, set it to 'shared with everyone' then copy the individual url to the thread.

After a few google searches, I discovered that Alexander John Cameron (Snr) is famous for creating John Dewars White Label ( Blended Whiskey) in 1898.

There is also a tree on Ancestry where the tree owner seems to be directly descended from son, William Dawson Cameron from a 2nd marriage.
If this tree is correct, William remarried in Edinburgh 1947 to:
Millicent Doris Erasmusen or Morrison
This tree also states he died in Edinburgh in 1952

( checked SP and this death exists. approx year of birth: 1911)
