192.com and searchelectoralroll each have two addresses for only one Rosetta Pawley (I assume it's just one person) - both in Eastbourne. An old address, and a newer one up to 2013.

No indication of age on the free search.

thank you for all your help. My Grandmother was Florence Mary Mason.
her family was George, Charles, Patrick, Florence ,Rosetta, Maisie and Walter.
My Grandfather was Alfred Goodwin.
It says on my Grandparents Marriage cert that his father was Alfred Samuel Goodwin
I do not know much about my Grandfathers adoption but I was told his surname was Quinn and he came from Cork in Ireland that is all I know. I was told his parents may of drowned in a boat accident that is all I know.

Susan Report 5 Oct 2016 23:02

I do not know anything about my grandfathers adoption just that a lot of the family said he was adopted and came from Cork in Mallow..

All the family are dead now.

I tried to get the birth cert for the Alfred Goodwin from Limerick but there was no such
birth cert.

So I guess I will never find out as he might of been born with a different name.

Thank you for all your help.
Susan King.

Susan, what is Alfred Samuel's occupation on the marriage cert?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 6 Oct 2016 12:58

You say there was no birth cert for Alfred born Limerick.

Can I ask, did you quote the right volume and page numbers? If the record's on Ancestry, it should exist.

Alfred Goodwin
in the Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958
Name: Alfred Goodwin
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1888
Registration district: Limerick
Birth Country: Ireland
Volume: 5
Page: 349
FHL Film Number: 101062

Having said that, I seriously doubt that that could be your Alfred, unless he wasn't adopted after all.
If he was adopted, I'm sure his birth would have been registered under a different surname at least.

Susan

Susan Report 6 Oct 2016 18:16

My Grandfathers father was Alfred Samuel Goodwin and he was a General Labourer.
It says on his Marriage Cert that he was 29 in 1915 so that makes his birth around 1886 and he lived at 48 Whites Square Clapham. The witness on the cert were
S. Mason which was my Grandmothers Mother. the other witness I do not know who they could be E. Meatyard.
Thats all I know.

Thank you.
Susan King.

there's this Alfred Samuel, who's a bricklayer - married 23 years - but it says they'd only had one child (Mary). Unless they didn't count Alfred if he wasn't their own blood kin??

Alfred Samuel Goodwin
in the 1911 England Census
Name: Alfred Samuel Goodwin
Age in 1911: 52
Estimated birth year: abt 1859
Relation to Head: Head
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Camden Town
Civil Parish: Mitcham

Country: England
Street address: 6 Smiths Blgs, Commonside E, Mitcham
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Bricklayer

In 1915 he's living alone - or at least with no other person of voting age:

Alfred Samuel Goodwin
in the Surrey, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1962
Name: Alfred Samuel Goodwin
Year: 1915
Parliamentary Division/Constituency: Wimbledon
Residence Place: Wimbledon, Surrey, England
Place of Abode: 4 Claremont cottages, Lewis road J
Reference Number: CC802/26/3

But in 1920 Mary Jane is with him:

Alfred Samuel Goodwin

Name: Alfred Samuel Goodwin
Year: 1920 Spring
Parliamentary Division/Constituency: Mitcham
Residence Place: Mitcham, Surrey, England

I don't see them in the 1901 census.

AustinQ Report 7 Oct 2016 08:01

On the Military Record (FMP) for George Alfred Goodwin his next of kin is Florence- 19 Broomgrove Road, Stockwell. (and in 1911 they were lving at 7 Broomgrove Road). (EDIT: military record on Ancestry states addres as Broomfield Road)

Thought this workhouse record might be connected:

London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records

Name: Alfred S Goodwin
Discharge Date: 18 Nov 1901
Discharge Age: 44
Record Type: Discharge
Borough: Lambeth
Parish or Poor Law Union: Lambeth
Title: Workhouses and Institutions

Alfred S Goodwin 44- wife Mary, 1 Broomgrove Road, Stockwell

So this is likely George Alfred, with Alfred Samuel in 1901:

The children of my grandparents do ring a bell George Patsy Charles Flor ence Rosetta Maisie Walter. I knew those. My Grandad was 29 when he got married in 1915 at Wandsworth Registry Office. My Graandmother was 25.
On the marriage cert it says his father wasAlfred Samuel Goodwin that must be the father that adopted him. But I do not know his name when he was born. I was just told he came from Ireland Cork

Mallow and his surname was Quinn. That is all I know.

Susan

Susan Report 12 Oct 2016 19:01

It seems like his father was Alfred Samuel Goodwin and his mother was Mary Jane Day.
I cannot make out who Celia Kate Downey, Edward Lynch, and Nicholas Richard J Griffin are.
I think I can remember my Grandfather having a sister Nellie she was blind.
thats all I know.

Thank you for all your help.

Susan- ignore the Downey, Lynch and Nicholas surnames- they are people entered into the indexes that also married at that time.

Hi,
The father on my Grandfathers Marriage Cert is Alfred Samuel goodwin which must be his adopted father.
I do not know where my Grandfather grew up or what age he came to England from ireland.
But I was told by a lot of my mothers family when they was alive that my Grandfather was Irish that his surname was Quinn and that he came from Mallow in Cork Ireland
I do not know anymore.
