Ok let's see if I can put what I have. On marriage certificate says Helen Egan as above. One witness is E Bailey. Other looks like LF maincliffe. And on my dads birth certificate she again come up as Helen Tomlinson former Egan. Under occupation of father it says 269,2826 P.C. Of 8 Theodora street Ardwick still looking I'm not giving up thank you everyone...

Chris Ho :) Report 4 Sep 2016 14:41

Would that be Police, relating to Occupation?...

Chris :)

(looking round on google search, seems to be Theodore Street?, not familiar with Lancs., me, lol)

(At 8 Theodore, 1939 was a Kathleen E. Smart (b. 1912) a Daughter, and a Beatrice Wain (b. 1901)

Edits (Maincliffe, not seeing!, quite a few contenders for E Bailey 1911 Chorlton)

Theodora street is Ardwick Manchester 12 .that the one on my dads birth certificate so surly they must have lived there in 1944 year of birth. I have been trying grandads number in thing but nothing coming up. Could he have been a special P.C because off war time.

As Herbert is not with the family in 1939, that would probably indicate that he was in one of the Services. What occupation is given on children's birth certs?

Tracey Report 4 Sep 2016 17:38

They might not have lived there for long, or even at all.

Helen might have gone there to have the baby ..............

Babies were generally born at home, but it was quite common into the 1950's for local midwives or nurse to have 1 or 2 rooms in her house where expectant mothers went to have their babies ............ one of James Herriot's books describes his wife doing just that when their first child was born!

She might have been evacuated there from elsewhere, eg, London.
