Blanch Violet Trice did not die until 1993 aged 102! So if he married there must either have been a divorce in which case she would surely know of it or as you say he could have taken up with another woman but there is little hope of finding them if he did so
The other possibility is he left the country and died overseas

I have looked at his WW1 record in the hope that any pension he was paid might have recorded a later address -but no luck ( he joined up in 1908 claiming to be 18 when he was only 16 so here is an early evasion. Do you know his mothers maiden name which he might have adopted?
I presume you know about Joans 2 sisters Vera and Noreen and have sought their input?

Choccy
I think thats the one that Julie ruled out in her last posting

His mothers maiden name was Whittick but I cant find a William George Whittick of right age and area dying after 1946
Similarly he has a stepfather George Newland in 1901 and might have used that name but cant find one that fits closely enough to spend money on it

Yes I remember Blanch Trice and yes she was 102 years of age! Her husband William George Trice did go off with another woman, she lived "across the road" whether this is correct im not sure.

Is it worth thinking he left the uk?
or could he have died and no one knew who he was "known only unto God "

Julie Report 23 Jul 2010 23:13

Gillian,
I dont know his mothers maiden name that might be the next step.
Nana Joan, Auntie Vera and Auntie Noreen have all past away. They were all brought up with out a father. I asked Nana Joan alot about her father she told me he left her a little money on the table and walked out on them and their poor mother Blanch. He did in later life visit my Nana Joan in Wood Green London when my Dad was born which was 1946 so we are certain he was alive then. Also Nan remembers a small boy with him not sure when this was. Could this child have been a half brother to my nan? I just dont know where to look now.

I wonder if he left a Will...perhaps naming that small child as a beneficiary?

My Nan was the youngest of three girls, my nan was born 1922 and we think her father William George TRICE left about 1934 give or take a year. Last Known address 42 Elm Road, Mile End, Portsmouth. He was a Sergeant Major in the army, based in Colchester, Essex.
Nan last saw her Dad at waterloo station London when my Dad was born which would have been about 1946 so we know he was alive then. He disappeared again and was last known working in a pub in Hertfordshire?
Thats all we know, Thanks for you help

William would be my Great Grandfather

TRICE....or ..BAKER..?

You could perhaps apply for his 2nd World War Army record and see if that reveals anything?
It's not that cheap and I believe there is quite a wait for paperwork to arrive though.
