hi im looking for info tying into the gibraltar side of this family, mainly james & ellen.and any of the family that ended up staying in gibraltar.here are some details to go on.from present backwards.with names and dobs ,robert womack1897-1976 -m- florence wright1902
.george wright1866-m-sarah rogers1876.
james wright 1833-m-ellen?
james went to gibraltar with the royal artillary and thats were he met ellen.they had 5 kids all born in gibraltar except the youngest who was born in bermuda, proberly due to james job.also a few more in england any other info id be gratful.

I live in Gib so might be able to find something for you. You say that James may have gone to Bermuda, did he return to Gib to stay? What did they do for a living as they cannot have stayed with the army.
There are no Womacks in the phone book.

Hi Carole here again.
Looks as if Emmanuel,George,James all returned to UK with parents. I still haven't found John. Younger children born in UK anyway except Elizaberth in Bermuda. Eliz. not on 1881 cenus so she may have died, she was not old enough to be married by then.
Search Emmanuel in Norfolk 1881. Ellen born 1843 as Laws also in Norfolk 1891.
I will look for John again and the Womacks.

Found John at Royal Artill. Barracks in 1871in Greenwich with the family. He didn't stop in Gib either. He appears on 1901 census with wife Nellie and children. Birth shown as 1860.
Who does Florence belong to? I don't have full access to 1911 census so I won't trace her without more detail. An address perhaps.

Did Florence Wright marry Robert Womack in Middlesborough in 1928? Ref 9d 1100?

Found two children for Womack and Wright parents. They are Malcom W born Stockton 1930 and Anne P born 1938 Durham SE.

I think I've also found James seniors army pension records. It says Born Colkirk, Fakenham, Norfolk.
Intended residence Fakenham, served 10 years Gibraltar and 4 years in Bermuda. Trade bricklayer.

,florence is my grandmother.her daughter ann is my mother,malcom is my mums brother..although we know quite a bit of info on the english side my mother wanted to know if she had any real roots in gibraltar,i d wonder why florence my grandmother was so very dark , hair and skin.

i didnt think that any of the kids were born in england,you mentioned that he spent 10yrs serving in gib and 4yrs in bermuda,

This is the 1881 census, the names,ages and places of birth of the younger 3 would match up with the 1891 census with Ellen Laws on.



In all the censuses I have seen with Ellen on she says born in Gibraltar each time.
