My grandmother was a Darke. She had 2 sisters, Harriet and Emma. A third sister was killed in the war by a German bomb. They were Bristolians and their father Henry was a cobbler. Alice, my Gran worked in a cotton factory. Emma was a cleaner at Thrissel Engineering and Harriet worked in a corset factory, Chappell and Allens. Gran married William Webb who was a stonemason on the GWR. They had one son, William Thomas, my Dad who was also a Railwayman. |
