Hi, I am trying to track down my partners family, his grandfather was Frederick Percy Barefield b. 20.2.10. We have received information from Barnardo's stating that he had brothers and sisters: Elizabeth, Albert, Daisy, George, Henry and Mary. Unsure of parents names but believe they were living in the Bethnal Green area. Any info gratefully received. |

Thank you all for your responses - I too was rather interested by Katherine's age when she and George married - were the laws the same then as they are now, ie, she would have needed parental consent to marry at 16? Interestingly, first child (another Katherine, they seemed to use K or C, just to confuse things!) wasn't born till 4 years after marriage - do you think she was probably pregnant when she married, as I can't really think of any other reason to marry so young? Perhaps the baby didn't survive or was taken away - what are your thoughts on this? |

Also, I hvae found a baby Harriet(t) Ada Barefield born and died in 1903 in Bethnal Green. My gut instinct is that this is another of Katherine (seniors) babies who died in infancy, as the forenames are those of her younger sisters. I will order the certificate at some point (have just ordered a load and it's proving rather costly!) to be sure, but what would you think? |

Thanks Sylvia, would you agree that it is strange for a child of that age to marry, then have no other significant event for anoter 4 years?! Am going to check to see if her mother had a child at around the same time as Katherine married... |
