Elizabeth Report 29 Mar 2005 01:50

Hoping to trace my Grandmother's Family. ELIZABETH BARNETT was born app.1885, married GEORGE HENRY VARDY, on 24th June 1910 in Newcastle on Tyne. Her father was DAVID BARNETT, who was recorded as a 'jobbing gardener' on the certificate. Elizabeth may or may not have been born in N/C, David almost certainly was not. There were at least 3 sisters, one possible called Madeline. At least one brother, possibly a Peter; definitely JOSEPH BARNETT who worked as a ship builder in N/C, and was a stoker in the Navy Reserves in WW1. He died in the sinking of the Queen Mary in the Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916. I have found only one Census record of a father David, dau. Elizabeth and son Joseph, the family originating in London - however the dates/ages and other siblings do not match. Nothing else has come close. David's wife I believed to be called Mary, but she signed A Barnett on George Vardy's death. Any help would be most gratefully received, as I am at a real dead end with this. Elizabeth and her mother also spoke Gaelic. Thanks, Elizabeth Briggs
