Delabarre (Delabar, 'De La Barre') This name is a derivation of the French name 'Labarre', with the 'De' prefix designating nobility. During the French Revolution, many nobles who wanted to avoid being identified as such removed the 'De' from their surnames. Prior to the Revolution, there are records of the knight Chevalier Jean Francois DelaBarre, who was exonerated after being burned at the stake by Louis XIV. The name Delabarre is a popular name in Northern France, where it originates.
