I know he was born around 1840 in Scotland and he had a son Alexander Black ( my greatgrandfather) ,who married Frances Beatrice Mary Marks, and a daughter Elizabeth ( i think).John Smith Black was a shipsmith and lived in Everton,Lancashire at the time of the 1871 census with his wife Jane. I have struck a stalemate as I cannot locate where in Scotland he was born, so cannot confirm his parents or find him in the Scottish records. Hoping someone out there can help. Thanks
