Where do i start. My great grandad was born Lionel Frank Jolliffe we did not find this out until his death in 1974. He was known through out his life as Frank Bush for some reason reverting back to his mother Bessie maiden name. His father on his birth certificate is John Jolliffe. Because of the name change i am having great difficulty in tracing anyone down this side of my tree. I was very lucky to have known frank but unfortunately not old enough then to ask the questions. If anybody could help i would appreciate it greatly

thanks wendy, looking at the census's and with help from you and other people we believe the story so far is. Frank was born to John H Joliffe (although Frank has two 'l's in his birth cert.) and bessie Joliffe formerly Bush info on birth cert 25/12/1889. On the 1891 census we see no Bessie but an Honor Joliffe is down as house keeper now is she a sister or married to john?????.Now in the 1901 census maybe Honor married a Nixon and some of the kids have changed there names to bush...its still confussing but i think maybe getting closer

If you look at the original 1891 census record, Ernest is 10yrs and Edith is 4 yrs. The ages have a big X through them, but by magnifying 200% it's easier to read.

Honor Bush married Richard William Nixon 1898 dec qt Fulham gro ref 1a 472

Honor on the 1891 census is single housekeeper so not married to John.. She obviously had Johns children then he must have died.
