I am researching my family history and have come to a problem with my grandfather's (my mother's father) side of the family. My grandfather was born in 1895 and brought up in Redcross County Wicklow, Southern Ireland. He left for England as a young man of about 20 years old, met and married my grandmother and settled down in North London. He was always known as Charles Joseph Keogh (his daughters and sons were called Keogh) but we have discovered that he was in fact illegitimate and that his real name is BYRNE. Perhaps my great grandmother later married a Keogh (was Byrne her maiden name?) and he was brought up with other children of that marriage (we believe he had brothers and sisters, some stayed in Ireland, one may have emigrated to America). I would love to hear from anyone who may know anything about the Byrne family or the Keogh family living in Redcross County Wicklow Ireland in the 1800's. Maureen |
