It may also be useful to add a relatives name using the spelling Cariss instead of Caress. I have found this to be down to transcribing copperplate writing from the census documents. Over a period of time I found that some of my relatives (in North Yorkshire) had their names changed from Caress to Cariss (bearing in mind that in the early to late 1800's many people could not read or write)
