I am desperately trying to find out the place and date of birth of my Gt Gt Grandfather MATTHEW CRANSTON. He died in 1886 at North Shields Northumberland following an accident in a Boatyard. He was married to Elizabeth Armstrong of North Shields and to Jane Reid from Scotland. All we can find on censuses is his birth place was Scotland. His marriage certificate is very obscure but indicates his father was probably Walter a Potter.. Matthew would have been born about 1827. Can anyone help?

Hi I don't know if you have got anywhere yet with the name Cranston.

A few of us on Genes reunited have found out that our name somehow changed from Cranston into Crinson.

There is a few Crinsons that were Potters in Sunderland. We have also found that a Robert Cranston how I decend from came from Scotland.
I hope I have been some help to you.
