Looking for William Davison

My paternal grandfather was William Davison born around 1860 maybe in York. He arrived in Australia at some stage (probably early 1890's) and formed a relationship with my grandmother Johanna Dalton with whom he had 4-5 children although only 2 survived beyond infancy -my father Clarence and his sister Evelyn both born in Carlton, Victoria where the family lived. I don't think they were ever married because my father's and his sister's births were registered in their mother's maiden name Dalton although they were both raised as Davisons and I don't think he ever knew his parents were not married. From family hearsay it seems my grandfather may have had a seagoing background although I also heard he may have worked as a porter on the trains in country victoria. He left my grandmother when my father was about 18 (c. 1918) and eventually married another woman whose name I do not know. My grandfather died at the age of about 90 just before I was born in 1950. He is buried in Melbourne Cemetery under the name of "Captain William Davison". I think he was a bit of a "tall story" teller.

Can anyone match him up in their tree please.
