I would appreciate any help and information on John and Edith Mary Eustace. On the 1911 cenus they are living in steyning sussex with their 3 children Cecil John, Joan and Winifred Mary. Edith mary died when the children were very young and John at a much older age. I have tried without any luck to find their dates of deaths and where they died. I would really appreciate any help or information to enable me to track them down. Thanks Christine

I agree about Edith - just can't see a death. Are you sure she did die soon after 1911, or maybe just left?? Might she have re-married??

Well as a family we are not sure. The story goes she died young, but we have also heard stories that she may have been put away (not sure if true). Cecil John her son wrote an autobiography and there is very little mentioned about his mother apart from him saying "When Mother went".

It is a mystery and one I would love to uncover. I have not been able to locate John Eustaces death but I assume he was living in the south of England although he did emigrate to Canada but later returned to Uk .

Thanks for your help.

If she was "sent away" she could have gone anywhere.
Shot in the dark:

Name: Edith M Eustace
Death Registration Month/Year: 1948
Age at death (estimated): 76
Registration district: Dartford
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 5b

(Thinking Kent connection with John's family???)

Hi Jan

Thanks, that could be her give or take a few years. Is there any records for people been put away due to madness( I think I might need put away myself with trying to find her lol)

This record you have found of Edith M Eustace will there be any other details of her parents or husband.

It just seems a bit strange to me and I think there is a skelton in the cupboard.

Thanks

Christine

Wow Jan you are doing great. That last one is definitely the John Eustace as my grandmother( his daughter) joan lived at 4 Market Place. Wonder why he gave her address? So we know that he was still alive in 1931.

I reckon the other one was him as well. His son Cecil John emigrated to Canada and he went to live with them but returned as he didnt like it there.

Have you found any information on Johns death?

If you were put away due to an illness would there be any records that I could check.

Thanks Christine

Hi Jan

I reckon thats him, probably died shortly after returning from Canada. Thank you so much for all your help. Thats John sorted.

Do you think I can explore the death of Edith Mary Eustace anymore.
Maybe that is her you found who died at age 76.

How else can I go about finding more detail from these leads you have given me.

I am really pleased with what you have found. Thank you

Note it was Gillian and John who did all that, not me!!

Re. Mary's death.
I can think of no option but to order the most likely certs one by one and see what they say. Not many possibles but it does add up, so depends how much you want to know!!

Thank you to Gillian and John for all your research.

I will order a copy of each of those certificates as it is adding up. Although it paints a sad picture for me and my grandmother who grew up believing her mother had died. In a way I hope it isnt her but then again closure for me would be good. Just checked and the London Lunatic Asylum was in Dartford Kent.

Can I just ask again that the only Edith Mary Eustace death is that one in 1948.

Thanks everybody, you have done in 1 hour what has taken me months lol.

Christine, there are a few Edith Mary, Edith M and just Edith Eustaces. As approximate birth years are given, some are so far out as to be reasonably safely excluded. This doesn't include mis-transcriptions either!!
For example, I specified a birth year 5 years either side of 1876 an came up with:

Name: Edith Eustace
Birth Date: 27 Jan 1881
Death Registration Month/Year: 1977
Registration district: Poole
Inferred County: Dorset
Volume: 23
Page: 0793

I am wondering if it might be worth considering taking out a free 2-week sub to ancestry and having a look yourself? Happy to look but something might strike you which we would miss.

Hi Colin

Thanks for your hard work. How do I get to see the tree on Ancestry?

I am thinking that Edith M Eustace was put away in a hospital I dont think she went abroad. Those 2 passenger lists are Cecil John. Its great to see information about your past relatives.

You would have to join Ancestry to see the tree. I think this emigration idea is a good one - might be worth pursuing?

Hi ediths parents Charles and Agnes Ellen does that help?
Southwark does this fit in with the Ancestory Tree.

How would I go about viewing this tree not too sure what to do.

I must admit Cutter looks like Cutler in handwriting. I have my Grandmothers birth certificate and it is Cuttler but looks like Cutler

Hiya joined ancestry and have contacted M.A. Eustace the owner of the tree so hopefully they will reply.

Thank you everyone for all your help. It has been a good day !
