My mothers maiden name was Flower [Grace maud] but her brothers birth certificate[Albert James] is listed as Flowers if anyone can throw any light onwhich is correct please email rdtyrrell at tiscali.co.uk

Diane,

My father's father's name was recorded on his birth certificate as Joseph Flowers, although his father and grandfather were both Joseph Flower. This was simply an error made by the registrar in question. The two Joseph Flower were silk weavers in the Bethnal Green area of London, probably Huguenots.
