My 4G grandfather was James (Jim) Glynne Griffith (1820-1887). Jim's parents were William Glynne Griffith (1775-1842) and Catherine Longville White (1790-1837). Jim joined the East India Co's service in 1839 and was in the Cape of Good Hope for eleven years. First came to Australia in 1853/4 on the ship "Tory" which was wrecked on Port Stephens Head and he had to swim ashore. Jim returned to England, collected his wife and family and they travelled as free emigrants on the "General Hewitt" to Moreton Bay in 1855. Jim died on New Years Eve 1887 and was buried on 2 Jan 1888 at Dunwich, Stradbroke Island, off Brisbane, Qld. If you are related to Jim's family, please send me a message! |
