Do you have a Hargest or Hergest in your tree? Then may be I can help Hi this is both an appeal for assistance and an offer of help,I would like to hear from anyone who may either have a Hargest or Hergest or Hargist relation in their tree or from any other Hargest,Hargist,Hergest families. As I'm doing what is known as a One Name study, into the Hargest/Hergest name and its origins. The earliest references I have seen to the name Hargest date back to at least 1435 and even earlier for the Hergest name.My own interest in the Hargest name stems from my mother's line whose ancestors I've currently managed to traced to the early 1700's in Herefordshire and other lines Powys in Wales. My primary aim for doing this study is to hopefully, to be able to eventually create a greater Hargest/Hergest family tree. From which all the current Hargest / Hergest families worldwide would stem from.So far I have indexed and transcribed all the registered Hargest's/Hergest/Hargist births,Marriages and Death records held at the General Record Office since 1837 to the year 2004 in England and Wales.I have copies of nearly every Male Hargest / Hergest marriage certificate between the years 1837 to 1900.From these records I have compiled a number of Family trees. So I will probably know more about your great great grand parents, then you may possibly know. To be as accurate as far as possible, I have been cross referencing all the individual entries. With known parish records, probate and monumental inscriptions and also from the earliest useful census's. Starting with the 1841 census right up to the last available one in 1901.I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who may have a female connection prior to 1912.As there where many female Hargests/ Hargist /Hergest marriages between 1837 and 1912 .Without having to purchase lots of marriage certificates at great cost it will be difficult to finalise many trees. Taking on a project of this magnitude, is not an easy task.So if you can offer any help I will be happy to, on condition that it is reciprocated and acknowledged. I have also created a Hargest message board on rootsweb for anyone interested in the Hargest/ Hergest names. The address is http://boards.ancestry(.)com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=surnames.hargest Best regards Adam of the Hargest One-Name Study registered with the Guild of One Name Studies 4334 http://www(.)one-name(.)org(/)profiles(/)hargest.html |
