My great-grandmother, possibly named Edith, was apparently a maid in the household of the Harper family, who came from Yorkshire. At some stage they came to London, and the son of the house, John Harper, who was a Lifeguard (in the Household Cavalry?) got my g-g pregnant. She gave birth to a girl in 1887, always known as Edith Harper. She was my grandmother. Some years later, she gave birth to another girl, Muriel (May) Harper. So John obviously stood by her, but apparently never married her. I'm having trouble finding anything at all, including my grandmother's and great-aunt's birth records. Can anyone help please? Jenny |
